Welcome to Sunset Singers - a chapter of Threshold Choir. We are small group of dedicated singers offering songs to help loved ones cross their thresholds as calmly and peacefully as possible.

We are a local chapter of the Threshold Choir in the Concord, NH area.

We are looking for new adult singers. We have rehearsals at the Concord Community Music School on Wednesdays at 10:00-11:30am. Please contact Kathy Burpee for more information.

NEW MEMBERS NEED TO KNOW:

Threshold Choir is a member driven organization. Members pay an annual "donation" to Threshold Choir. Currently asking $88.00 a year. Because the Concord Community Music School supports us by allowing us practice space, each person is required to register as a "student" annually for a fee. This year it is $20.00 for a year. So there are several reacurring cost annually.

Threshold Choir has fairly high standards and we encourage you to commit to a 3 month trial period. At the end of this time, if you decide this is a good fit for you, you will sing for our advisor, by yourself and with 2 or 3 other singers. This allows the director to know how you blend, stay of pitch, carry your own part. Once you are a member, it may take time before the leaders feel you are ready to be part of a 2 - 3 bedside grouping. There may be occassions that call for a larger group, that will be a chance to sing before you are an official "bedside singer". We recommend holding off on becoming a Threshold Choir member and paying the school's dues until after the 3 month trial period.

You will need to:

  • Sing a Capella
  • Sing on pitch
  • Be able to blend
  • Hold your part in harmony
  • Take online & group lessons about how to approach a sing, HIPPA rules, your role at bedside, etc.
  • You need to plan on attending most rehearsals
  • Singing for the dying and seriously ill is not for everyone. You should feel "called" to it.
  • Know that it may take up to a year before you are ready to sing at bedside
  • You will attend 3 or so months of rehearsals to see what we are about and if you feel it's right for you, then you will be requested to sing with 2 or 3 of our singers for our Advisor (who is on staff at the music school) to check for blend and to recieve feedback and suggestions, if needed.
  • A flexible schedule with your own transportation. We get called at all times. Most can be scheduled a day or so out. Occassionly a Vigil sing may be requested, which requires immediate attendence.
  • While not required, we do encourage singers to attend Hospice Volunteer Certification class. This is offered several times a year through Granite VNA - Hospice.
Please feel free to send questions or comment to Kathy Burpee at sunsetsingersnh@thresholdchoir.org.
